Ever since I was a kid I could always remember trying to find a way to get paid to do something I truly loved to do. Some of my first ambitions were to figure out a way how I could get paid in something to do with motocross. Another thought I had was to live out west as a fishing guide and just live out of a van. As it turns out, I somehow wondered off that path of seeing my early ambitions through. Maybe it was college, outside influences, lack of money or just myself losing sight of what the end goal was. Choosing a career I feel can be a difficult decision to make in our late teens. In today’s world I would encourage my younger self to relax and take the time to explore many different opportunities. I would have said ” go live in a van in Montana and FIGURE…..IT….OUT”.
Those three words. Figure it out. That is exactly what my guest on episode 31 did. He figured it out. Dan Spengler works for Pure Fishing. Pure Fishing is the parent company to some of the top names in the fishing industry including Abu Garcia, Shakespeare and Berkley. Dan is a senior bait development engineer for Pure Fishing and has probably had a hand in designing a good portion of the baits you keep in your tackle box. Ever hear of the Berkley High Jacker, Cutter Shallow 90 or flicker shad? How about the snap jig? Dan has had some kind of influence in the design and performance of all of these baits in some capacity. Not only does he talk about his experiences of developing some of these highly effective baits, but he also tells us how, when and where to fish them.
In this episode you will hear how Dan’s love of making baits as a boy landed him his dream job at Pure Fishing. I find his story inspirational and one I wish I would have heard of in my younger years. The key point here is Dan never lost sight of his dream, passion and he figured….it …..out.. Go do the same.
